Neha Dhupia was once considered to be one of the most popular actresses in Hindi cinema for her brave personality and glamorous roles. Dhupia has been joined hands with Stalwarts like Priyadarshan Rajat Kapoor and Akshay Kumar and more on a constant basis in her career which itself is a testimony of her promise as an actress. She was also one of the busiest actresses in Bollywood in the mid 2000’s with a long string of commercial and offbeat movies to her name.
Neha Dupia was born to Punjabi speaking Sikh parents at Kochi in Kerala; her father being a naval commander , Dhupia completed her schooling from Naval Public School and Army Public School in New Delhi .She then went on to graduate in History from Jesus and Mary College. She made her acting debut at the age of 14 in Priyadarshan’s Malayalam language blockbuster Minnaram, where she appeared along with Mohan Lal in a supporting role as a child artist. However after which Dhupia made her acting debut in a stage play called “Graffitti” and subsequently went on toappear in music videos for Indi pop band “Euphoria” and took up various modelling assignments which led her winning the crown of Femina Miss India pageant in the year 2002 thereby opening the doors of cinema for her in the year 2003.
Neha Dhupia in the past was in a relationship with National level Squash champion Ritwik Bhattacharya, though the couple parted ways after a whopping ten years in the year 2010. Cricket player Yuvraj Singh also was in the past rumoured to be in a relation with the star which was nullified afterwards.
Bollywood Debut and rise to prominence ( 2003) Neha Dhupia made her acting debut in Hindi cinema with the ensemble action thriller Qayamat: City Under Threat, where she co-starred with Ajay Devgn ,Suniel Shetty , Sanjay Kapoor , Isha Koppikar and many more. The movie was a blockbuster outing and rose to fame in the year 2004 by playing the lead in Deepak Shivadasani’s romantic movie Julie , which got her noted among the critics and audiences alike contributing to her fame. She then went on to star in the psychological thriller Sheesha opposite Sonu Sood in the year 2005 which saw her playing dual roles of two twin sisters but the movie panned out to be a flop. Dhupia was nextseen among the lead like Tushar Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh, in Sangeeth Sivan’s adult comedy flick, Kyaa Kool Hai Hum in the same year 2005. Dhupia was seen playing a psychologist named “Rekha” in the comedy of errors outing which was branded as India’s first adult comedy film and went on to be a super hit although mainly garnering cold reviews. Neha Dhupia then came up with a supporting role in Priyadarshan’s confusion comedy flick Garam Masala also featuring John Abraham in the lead. Dhupia was also seen in one of the most hilarious and memorable scenes of the blockbuster movie. The year 2006 saw her coming up with a major role in Sunny Deol’s supernatural thriller film Teesri Aankh along with Ameesha Patel in the lead. The movie too was a huge hit with good critical reception. She meanwhile also appeared in major roles in movies like Chup Chup Ke, Utthaan and Delhii Heights. Ek Chalis Ki Last Local saw her pairing with Abhay Deol as the female lead. The movie though only a sleeper hit managed to get extra ordinary reviews and is still considered to be a cult classic. Subsequent films ( 2007- 2011) Neha Dhupia continued her good form with Apoorva Lakhia’s crime drama Shootout at Lokhandwala, along with an ensemble star cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Vivek Oberoi, Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty and Dia Mirza among others. The movie had a dream run both commercially and critically. After appearing in a song for the movie Heyy Babyy, Dhupia returned by playing the horror anthology film Dus Kahaniyaan, featuring ten independent short movies where Dhupia was leading in the segment “Strangers in The Night“where she co-starred with Mahesh Manjrekar, which told the story of a husband and wife opening up about past sexual distractions on their anniversary day, only to have an unexpected climax of sorts. The movie was a top grosser and had a positive word of mouth. After a bizarre outing in Rama Rama Kya Hai Drama, Dhupia was cast by Rajat Kapoor in Mithya , where she shared screen with Naseerudhin Shah and Ranvir Shorey . The movie was a critical phenomenon with screening in many film festivals and also collected way past its shoestring budget becoming a hit. Neha Dhupia then went on to act in the Pakistani production Kabhi Pyar Na Karna. She then had a major supporting role in Akshay Kumar’s comedy Singh Is Kinng which turned out to be a major blockbuster inspiring spinoffs in the future like Singh Is Bling. Neha Dhupia was next cast opposite Vinay Pathak in the critically acclaimed movie Dasvidaniya which too was a terrific hit. Neha Dhupia’s next big release was yet again with her frequent collaborators Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar, having her in an extended supporting role which also was a major hit. Saurabh Sukhla’s comic movie Raat Gayi Baat Gayi?, which saw her pairing with Rajat Kapoor and Vinay Pathak. The movie which was a funny commentary on modern day marriages won Dhupia The Best Supporting Actress Awards at the Star Screen Awards in the year 2009. Recent films ( 2010- 2016) Action Replay and the Telegu production Parama Veer Chakra were her next uneventful releases but she got some respite in 2010 for her portrayal of the gangster “Munni” in Phas Gaye Re Obama opposite Rajat Kapoor, with the movie getting rave reviews. . After critical and commercial let-downs in movies like Maximum, I M 24 and Rush with only a breather in the critical hit Pappu Can't Dance Saala. The year 2013 saw her relocating to Punjabi cinema for the Jimmy Shergill starrer Rangeelay , although a rather forgettable outing it garnered her a Nomination for Best Actress in the PTC Awards. Ungli in 2014 was her next major release where she appeared along with an ensemble cast of Emraan Hashmi, Randeep Hooda , Sanjay Dutt and Kangana Ranaut in the lead turning out to be a critical success and a box office potboiler. Neha Dhupia was last seen in the year 2016 in the movies like Santa Banta Pvt.Ltd and Moh Maya Money.
