Film Acting debut and rise to prominence (2002-2003) Sohail Khan after making his directorial entry with a handful of movies in the latter half of 90’s, Sohail Khan went on to make his acting debut in his own directorial romantic action flick Maine Dil Tujhko Diya in the year 2002. The Hit movie which narrated the age old story of love blossoming between two friends amidst much turmoil saw him pairing with Sameera Reddy in the lead cast. Sohail was then called upon to play among the lead in the anthology horror film Darna Mana Hai which had him opposite Antara Mali in the segment titled “On the Way” which told the story of supernatural experiences of a husband and wife through a car journey. He next came up with back to bavk projects in 2003 like the low farer flicks Anubhav: An Experience and Lakeer- The Forbidden Lines and in the latter Khan donned a negative character for the first time in his career. Array of follow up releases ( 2004-2007) Sohail Khan then ventured in to major underperforming flicks like the action film I Proud to Be an Indian, Horror thriller Krishna Cottage along with Isha Koppikar and Anita Hassanandani Reddy. David Dhawan’s Salman Khan starrer Maine Pyar Kiya, the ensemble action flick Fight Club –Members Only along with Suniel Shetty, Zayed Khan and others in the lead. He then resurfaced with a commendable lead performance in the action sports drama flick Aryan - Unbreakable where he played a boxer who is forced to reconsider his life choices after a turn of events and Khan was seen to be effective in the portrayal of the emotional nuances of the struggling protagonist. The movie was an above average grosser of the time. His next major stint was among the cast of Nikhil Advani’s ensemble romantic anthology film Salaam-E-Ishq where he shared screen with Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Salman Khan and many other bigwigs in the lead and paired opposite Isha Koppikar in the sixth tale of the movie titled “ Ramdayal and Phoolwati which looked in to the comical struggles of a newlywed couple looking to spend some quality time together. The highly cold response towards the movie did not help his cause at that point of time. Abbas Tyrewala’s blockbuster romcom Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na had him an extended supporting role together with Imran Khan in the lead. His next outings in the year 2008 were Salman Khan’s fantasy comedy film God Tussi Great Ho, The ensemble workplace thriller film Hello opposite Sharman Joshi and others in the forefront all of which were mediocre performers. Sohail Khan then appeared in the positively acclaimed Heroes with Mithun Chakraborthy, Sunny Deol and Salman Khan and others in the lead which too did well or his career prospects. Sohail Khan has been an active part of Bollywood in various positions as: Director: He made his directorial debut in the year 1997 with his brother Salman Khan starrer hit movie Auzaar which narrated the story of two college friends who find themselves on the opposite side of law as they unite had him pairing with Shilpa Shetty. Sohail then went on to helm the romantic comedy flick Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya again with Salman Khan in the lead alongside Kajol, Dharmendra and Arbaaz Khan in other pivotal roles. The highly successful movie fetched him two Filmfare Awards in the year 1998. He then wielded the microphone for the comedy film Hello Brother with Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Rani Mukerjee in the cast in the year 1999. After a three year gap he returned to filmmaking with the action film Maine Dil Tujko Diya opposite Sameera Reddy and the movie was a hit at the time. His next directorial came in the year 2014 with the Salman Khan starrer action drama film Jai Ho which narrated the story of an ex-army man who sets out to be the saviour of the society in dire circumstances. Sohail Khan’s latest directorial venture is the sports romcom Freaky Ali which had Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Amy Jackson in the lead. The movie which released in the year 2016 was a moderate success with mixed reviews. Producer: Sohail Khan has also bankrolled several of his own movies under the home production house“ Gumeet & Sohail Productions and his first movie as a producer was his own Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya, Hello Brother, Maine Dil Tujhko Diya, I Proud to Be an Indian, Lucky No Time for Love, Maine Pyaar Kyu Kiya, Fight Club, Partner, God Tussi great Ho, Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, Ready and Jai Ho. Sohail Khan has also served as the writer of his own directorial and other projects like Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya, Hello Brother, Fight Club- Members Only and Kissan over the years. Sohail Khan has also had his stint in Television and has appeared as the judge various programmes like Sony Entertainment’s reality based comedy show Comedy Circus in 2011, Kahani Comedy Circus Ki in 2012, Comedy Circus Ke Ajoobe in the years 2012 and 2013, Comedy Nights Bachao in 2015. He has also been part of the TV Soap Opera Khandaan in the year 2015.
