Abhimanyu Dassani finished his degree in Finance and performing courses from New York Film Academy & Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in California.
He has also done acting publications from Anupam Kher’s Institute.
He worked on his dancing skills and voice module before he took a step into the films.
Abhimanyu Dassani is the son of a businessman Himalay Dasani and actress Bhagyashree. He follows Hindu religion.
A very stylish, good looking and talented boy. His upbringing was not like a star kid and was as normal as it any other boy. He admits that he wasn’t recognized as a star kid until he was seen with his famous mother Bhagyashree. He was kept away from the filmy world hence does not have any friends in the film circle or with other star kids.
Abhimanyu has been independent since the age of sixteen and had his priorities set right. He had interest in acting and film making and was also in the process of setting up his own business when he decided to try for the auditions for the film Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota. His parents had not influenced him to take on to the films nor were they in anyway responsible to get him into the films. He has done it on his own accord. However, he is worried to be put on the pedestal for being Bhagyashree’s son.
He has been an entrepreneur from the age of 16 and has set up 10 to 12 businesses, made profits and sold them. But he soon realized he was cut out for more creative work and films was one of the main options he had in mind. He soon became the assistant director to Rohan Sippy and worked on the films like Dum Maaro Dum and Nautanki Sala and also did a documentary film.
Abhimanyu started his film career with his debut role in the film, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota in 2018 directed by Vasan Bala. He won accolades for his role in the film and was honored at the Toronto International Film Festival. He is the first Indian actor to have won the best new actor award for this film, at the International Film Festival at Macao. The film was released in India in March 2019. The film got popular because of his role of a quirky man who cannot feel any pain.
He has given about 25 to 30 auditions for this film and got selected.
The first awarding function that he attended, he won the award at the hands of Mabel Cheung the celebrity film maker from Hong Kong. She compared him to the famous Jackie Chan. With his first film itself he got a lot of recognition in the International film world.
Mabel suggested he should go to China and do some action films , while Danis Tanovic, the Bosnian director suggested he should not just stick to Bollywood. That itself is a huge compliment for a new comer in the film industry whose potential is seen by many big wigs of the International films.
His role as Surya in the film got so famous that he is recognized as Surya in public places in Toronto. He was reminded of his mother Bhagyashree still being called Suman of ‘ Maine Pyaar Kiya’.
Getting into the films was a roller coaster ride with him giving many auditions before Vasan signed him for the film.
He went through extensive training for martial arts before the shooting for this film happened.
Abhimanyu Dassani hopes to get films with diversified roles and talks are on for more films that he will soon finalise.
