He made his first debut and then starred as the lead actor in the Telegu film Vamsa Vriksham directed by Bapu in 1980. He then made a debut in the Kannada film with Mani Ratnam’s Pallavi Anu Pallavi in 1984. For his role as the Supporting Actor in the film Mashaal in 1984 by Yash Chopra, he won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award. Anil Kapoor earned his first Award for his performance in the Filmfare Best Actor Award for Tezaab in 1988 and later again for his performance in the film Beta in 1992. Anil Kapoor excelled in his portrayal of an autistic person in 1989 in the film Eeshwar. The Year 1990 saw him play a dual role as the twin brothers in the Highly successful film Kishen Kanhaiya and the same year he hit a reasonable box office in the film, Ghar Ho To Aisa followed by his critically acclaimed performance in the film Awaargi. His two films Jamai Raja and Jeevan Ek Sanghursh both South remakes were major flops. This was a setback in his career in the year 1990 the year he would have probably been crowned as the Number 1 in Bollywood. But these two flops proved otherwise. It was the first time Anil Kapoor appeared without a moustache to depict his younger days in the film. Although the film was a Box office failure in India, it proved to be a success overseas. Benaam Badshah followed with a below-average status. In 1992, Anil Kapoor received his second Filmfare Best Actor Award for his hard-hitting performance in Indra Kumar’s film BETA opposite Madhuri Dixit. Kapoor was highly impressive in his comic role in Khel and the highlights of the film. In 1993, he acted in the home production of his Brother Boney Kapoor’s mega-budget film Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja which was a disaster at the box office and damaged Anil Kapoor’s reputation as the Industry’s biggest star at that time. The only successful and major hit film was Laadla again with Sridevi, a film produced by Nitin Manmohan. Anil Kapoor has given a splendid performance as a simpleton lover in the hit Musical 1942; Love Story. His 1995 release Trimurti was a box office disaster again though his performance was given its due credit and he again gave a decent performance as an average performer for his film Gharwali Baharwali. Anil Kapoor after a few box office failures has had box office success as well with his films like Loafer, Judaai, Deewana Mastana, Biwi No.1, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain which were box office hits. Anil Kapoor’s unusual characters like the one he portrayed in the film Taal shocked the audience and critics alike but he also won rave reviews for his superb performance in his role in the film Virasat, a remake of the Tamil film Thevar Magan in 1992. . He has starred in the film Jhooth Bole Kauwa Kaate with Juhi Chawla . which didn’t do too well though he played a comic role that was well appreciated and liked by the audience. He further acted in films in 2000 with the release of Bulandi, Nayak, and Badhaai ho Badhaai which is a take-off from the Hollywood film The Nutty Professor. He has had some glorious performances in the film Rishtey and Om Jai Jagadish in which he again gave an amazing performance. Anil Kapoor shared the screen with Amitabh Bachchan for the first time in the film Armaan. He did a few more releases like Calcutta Mail, Musafir, My Wife’s Murder which he also produced and Anees Bazmee’s super hit film No-Entry in 2005, which became the highest-grossing film of the year. He was also in the film Bewafaa in 2005 with Kareena Kapoor and Sushmita Sen who plays a grey character with finesse followed by his role in the thriller film Chocolate and his first release in 2007. Salaam-E-Ishq a tribute to Love was a box office hit in the overseas entertainment segment though a flop in India. . His film ‘ Welcome’ was declared the Biggest successful film of the year. What followed were his understated performance in the films, Black and White by Subhash Ghai and Abbas-Mustan’s thriller film, ‘Race’, both were on top at the Box office. Vijay Krishna Acharya’s film Tashan marked Anil Kapoor’s comeback to Yashraj Films but failed to do well at the Box office. His most recent films were his first English Language film Slumdog Millionaire which was released in 2008 and a worldwide acclaimed film. Followed by Yuvraaj Slumdog Millionaire won him several International Awards and received reviews from critics. This film cost only US 15 million to produce but pulled out $352 Million worldwide.
