Darsheel created history at film award functions In the history of film awards till date there is no child actor who has been awarded Best Actor Award, all have won Best Child Actor award. But Darsheel is the ‘Only Child Actor’ who has the prestige of winning the Best Actor Award for his marvelous performance in Taare Zameen Par. Darsheel has also won the most revered Critic’s Best Actor Award by Filmfare and Zee Cine Award. The judges of both the award functions selected him for the honor gauging at the magnitude of his performance in a film. Darsheel played the role of a child suffering Dyslexic (Learning Disability) with such conviction that even film critics wrote rave reviews about him. Film critics went bananas and even adjectives failed to describe the kind of awe-inspiring performance that Darsheel had portrayed at the tender age of 9 years!
Darsheel Safary had passion for acting since childhood Darsheel was born in business family. His father Mitesh Safary is a jeweler and all his close relatives are into business. Hence Darsheel’s father wanted Darsheel to become a jeweler or a businessman but Darsheel had passion for acting. Hence on his insistence his father admitted him at Shiamak Davar's dance academy. Darsheel was selected for Taare Zameen Par among more than 1000 boys When Darsheel was learning dance at the Summer Funk at Shiamak Davar's dance academy, he saw a poster at the academy that read ‘Hunting for a naughty kid. If you're selected, you will get a chance to act with Aamir Khan.’ Young Darsheel was excited at that thought of working with Aamir Khan. Call it destiny before Darsheel could digest the news, the same day, script writer of Taare Zameen Par Amole Gupte had visited the academy hunting for the kid. When he went into the class of Darsheel, Gupta saw mischievousness in the eyes of Darsheel and invited him for an audition. During audition several kids were present and all were asked to enact a scene in which they describe how they bunk their class. Among more than 1000 kids, it was just Darsheel who impressed Amol Gupte. Later when Aamir Khan saw Darsheel he was bowled over by his innocence and his sincerity. He made up his mind that Darsheel was the final choice for the role of Ishaan Nandkishore Awasthi. On Aamir Khan’s guarantee Darsheel’s school principal allowed him to act Darsheel studied at Mumbia’s most prestigious Green Lawns High School located in Mumbai’s posh Breach Candy locality. The school has strict discipline hence when the school principal came to know that Darsheel has been selected for the film she raised objection and even threatened to expel Darsheel from the school. However Aamir Khan took personnel responsibility of Darsheel that his studies won’t be hampered and he would pass all the school examination. On Aamir Khan’s guarantee the school principal permitted. Aamir Khan arranged personnel tuition for Darsheel at his residence. Aamir bore all the expenses of Darsheel’s tuition fee and also took personnel attention that Darsheel gave all his school exams and passed with flying color.
Aamir Khan played cricket and Uno with Darsheel during shooting When Darsheel began shooting with Aamir Khan for the film Taare Zameen Par he was nervous in the beginning. Hence Aamir Khan spent many days with Darsheel playing Uno Cards and cricket with him. Aamir also taught English Grammar to him. After spending few days with Darsheel, Aamir became his friend and slowly and gradually Aamir Khan cleverly shot the film in a playful ambience. Darsheel in an interview informed that his contribution in the film was just 1% while it was Aamir Khan who coxed out 99% performance from him. Darsheel regards Aamir Khan as his Guru and curves to work with him again. Today when he looks at the film Taare Zameen Par, Darsheel feels proud of being so fortunate to get a debut in a film with an actor and director like Aamir Khan. Like Aamir Khan, Darsheel signed just one film a year Despite the huge success of Taare Zameen Par, Darseel did not get carried away with stardom and sign more movies. Though he was flooded with offers but he kept his cool and signed only those films that he found worthy and with good directors. Also like his mentor Aamir Khan, Darsheel did only one film in a year. After a huge gap of three years after Taare Zameen Par, Darsheel, he did Bumm Bumm Bole (2010) directed by brilliant filmmaker Priyadarshan. The film was also nominated for the Academy Award For Best Foreign Language Film. In 2011, Darsheel did Zokkomon, in which he played a super kid with powers of superman. The film was directed by Aamir Khan’s TV serial Satyameva Jayate director Satyajit Bhatkal. In 2012, Darsheel had the privilege of working under the direction of world’s renowned director Deepa Mehta in her film Midnight's Children. Darsheel and his tryst with TV Darsheel created sensation with his dance performance Jhalak Dikhla Ja 5. The judges termed him Chhota Packet. He showcased his talent in dancing by performing innovative dance forms like Jazz, Hip-Hop, Semi-classical, Kathak and Kalaripayattu. His dance on Aamir Khan’s song Pehla Nasha with partner Avneet Kaur was truly amazing. Darsheel stole thunder on stage with Ranbir Kapoor In 2013, At the age of 16 years Darsheel stole thunder at 18th International Children’s Film Festival, India by hosting the show with non other Ranbir Kapoor.
