Ankita Lokhande was born in Indore and belongs to a conservative Maharashtrian family of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. Her father is a banker and her mother is a teacher. Ankita was a state level badminton player but didn't pursue as she was interested in the glamour industry to weave a career in the film industry. She completed her schooling in Indore and had applied at Frankfinn Institute of Air Hostess Training to become and air hostess. Her parents were not really happy about her decision to join the glamour industry however when Ankita made up her mind to step into the small screen and pursue her dream of a career in acting, they let her. Hailing from a middle class family Ankita dreamt big and chartered her way to make it big in the world of glamour on the television. She became popular overnight with the television serial Pavitra Rishta .

The very popular Pavitra Rishta couple, Ankita Lokhande and Sushant Singh Rajput were going steady in a 6 year long courtship which unfortunately and sadly ended with a heartbreak. Ankita made her debut in the glamour industry with her debut in 2009 in the Zee TV soap opera ' Pavitra Rishta. Ankita became a household name and got very popular with her role as the Archana Deshmukh and was also giving audition for a career in Bollywood . Her most recent audition was for Sultan with Salman Khan but she was not selected and the role went to Anushka Sharma. She was also approached for a role in Happy New Year but that too did not materialise. Ankita has also participated in the celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 4 along with her ex-boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput. on Sony Television. Ankita makes her debut in Bollwood in the film Manikarnika -The queen of Jhansi which is an upcoming biographical film directed by Krish and produced by Zee Studios in collaboration with Kamal Jain & Co and Nishant Pitti. While Kangana Ranaut plays the title role of Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi, Ankita has a pivotal role too in the film as she will be essaying the character of Jhalkaribai who was considered as the right hand of Rani Laxmibai and her role in the film is integral as a part of the film. Ankita in her interview said she is indebted to Kamal Jain for giving her this challenging role in a big budget film which is scripted by the famous Baahubali scriptwriter KV Vijayendra Prasad. The actress to be Ankita Lokhande will play a role that is a stark contrast to her of the goody housewife avatar she has portrayed on the television. She will be riding horses and will be seen in fierce sword fight as a warrior. The role requires a lot of preparation and hard work and Ankita known to be very professional and hardworking is all set to gear up for her role in her debut film in Bollywood which is a challenging one.
