Athiya’s father Suniel Shetty is a very popular and famous film actor in Hindi films. She comes from Bunt family background originally from Karnataka but born and raised in Mumbai. Her mother Mana is a Punjabi Hindu and Muslim Guajarati Descent. Mana is a fashion designer, an entrepreneur and a social worker. Athiya has studied in the prestigious Cathedral School, John Connon school, and later at the American School of Bombay in Mumbai and then moved to study at the New York Film Academy. Athiya is a graduate in Film Making & Liberal Arts and has learnt dancing from REMO dance academy. She loves to click selfies, plays football and basketball etc.
Athiya used to be a tomboy, fond of outdoor sports ,a religious person and superstitious too.
At the age of 18 she developed interest in films and wanted to be an actress and join the film industry like her father.

Athiya has made her debut in a romantic action film called Hero produced by Salman khan /directed by Nikhil Advani and she plays a role of Radha Mathur who falls in love with a kidnapper who abducts her. Her second film is Mubarakan opposite Arjun Kapoor. Anil Kapoor and Ileana DCruz are also a part of the pivotal roles . The film is directed by Anees Bazmee in which she plays the role of a simple Punjabi girl.
Athiya has appeared in a song in 2018 ‘Tere Naal Nachna’ sung by Badshah and Sunanda Sharma, was shot for a promotional purpose. She was cast in Remo D’Souza’s film ‘Motichoor Chaknachoor’ in the lead character along with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and will also be seen In the Biopic of footballer Afshan Ashiq in Hope Solo .
Her ancestors hail from Karnataka but her parents settled in Mumbai and she was raised in Mumbai.
