Bindiya Goswami after her retirement from the film industry in 1980 took up a profession of a costume designer for actress in the film industry. She has designed clothes for Rani Mukerji, Kareena Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai for her husband J.P. Dutta’s film such as Border, Refugee, LOC Kargil and Umrao Jaan. She is actively involved with her husband’s projects behind the camera and takes pride in her own work . She has done some Iconic films during her short career in the film industry.
Bindiya Goswami was born in Rajasthan , a place called Kaman Bharatpur to a South Indian father and a Catholic mother.
During her growing years she had decided to become and air hostess like her elder sister, however at the age of fourteen at a party at her neighbor Pyarelal’s house , Hema Malini’s mother Jaya Chakravarthy noticed her to a resemblance of Hema Malini and took an instant liking to her and recommended her to film producers. Bindiya is said to have married early to her co-star Vinod Mehra but the couple had divorced after four years of marriage. Thereafter Goswami had given up acting at the peak of her career to marry J.P. Dutta the film director in the year 1985. Thereafter she stayed away from the film industry and raised two beautiful daughters. Her daughter Nidhi is following her mother’s footsteps and aspires to be a film actress .
Bindiya Goswami did her debut film with Vijay Arora in the film ‘Jeevan Jyoti’ and the film was a success followed by her superhit film Khatta Meetha in 1977 directed by Basu Chatterjee, a film in line with the English remake ‘ Yours Mine and Ours’ . In this film she has starred opposite to the handsome Rakesh Roshan. Her next film was Prem Vivah in 1979. She went on to be one of the most popular actress and her bubbly cheerful presence attracted her audience and fans instantly.. Her biggest hit was the film Gol Maal oppostite Amol Palekar in 1979 a superhit film of comedy romance with Utpal Dutt playing the Cameo cum comedy role with Dina Pathak. The film’s success led her to receiving many new roles and she was casted opposite Shashi Kapoor in the big budget film Shaan in 1980. She also appeared in film Dada with Vinod Mehra. Her career took a break due to her untimely marriage with Vinod Mehra during that time and he was already married to Meena Broca. The publicity of their marriage hampered her career though their marriage ended within four years. There after she married J.P. Dutta and soon quit the industry. Though a short stint in the Bollywood she has created a niche for herself and is a known name in the circle and her audience remember her for the cheerful happy roles she portrayed in every film . Bindiya Goswami the shy next door neighbor look girl yet glamorous had a compelling beauty that customized her roles typical to flaunt as an arm candy. Her brand of cinemas was loved by her audience and she fitted in a perfect role of the sweet girl persona with the hero of the film . Her reel story fascinated the young Bindiya Goswami for romance in the real and she fell head over heels in love with the hero of her many films, Vinod Mehra.
