Divya Bharti was first spotted by Filmmaker Nandu Tolani, while she was doing her ninth grade, he was adamant about introducing her through one of his movies. Although she was slated to make her debut in the Mithun Chakraborty starrer Gunahon Ka Devta her official debut in the Telegu industry in Bobbli Raja opposite Dagubbati Venkatesh in the year 1990. Divya Bharti could not have asked for more as the movie was a phenomenal hit at the time of release and still is considered one of the best Telegu language movies. Bharti next appeared in a Tamil language feature film Nila Penne where she acted alongside Anand; the movie did not fare well at that time, which made it her solo outing in Tamil cinema. Continued hits in Telegu cinema (1991) Divya Bharti established herself as one of the leading new faces in Telegu during the beginning of 1991, where she went on to be a part of many successful films. Rowdy Alludu and Assembly Rowdy were immediate hits in the year when she was cast opposite the superstars Mohan Babu and Chiranjeevi, which subsequently led to a sudden boom in her star value which also made her a regular face in Telegu movies. Hindi Debut in Vishwatma ( 1992) Divya Bharti after delivering standout hits in the Telegu industry was called upon by Major Hindi producers and she made her Hindi debut opposite Sunny Deol in Vishwatma the year 1992; although only a moderate box office success, the movie was a major turnaround for Bharti as she received widespread critical acclaim and also got her noted in Bollywood. The song “Saath Samundar” garnered Bharti a lot of attention from all corners. Dil Ka Kya Kasoor was her next release, which too had a low-key commercial run. But things took a huge turnaround for her as the movie achieved a tremendous run at the box office and critical run and emerged to be a possible game changer for the lead stars Govinda and Bharti and also established director David Dhawan’s career to new heights. The movie also won the Lux Face of the Year title in 1992 further adding to her fame. Biggest career break in Deewana (mid-1992) Divya Bharti’s career took a major leap in the June release of 1992 Deewana starring Superstar Rishi Kapoor too in a prominent role; incidentally was Shahrukh Khan’s first release in his career. The musical romantic comedy saw her portraying a highly intense character which gave her ample scope of showcasing her acting skills and the movie emerged as one of the biggest hits of the year 1992. Both Bharti and Shahrukh Khan won a lot of accolades for the film and Bharti could finally break away from conventional stereotyped roles also fetching her a Filmfare Award for Lux New Face which was her first major Award.D eewana is still considered to be her best and most popular movie in her short career span. Last few releases before death ( 1992 – 1993 ) After a huge break in Deewana, Bharti appeared in a string of moderate action movies like Balwaan, alongside Suniel Shetty and also in romantic movies like Dil Aashna Hai wherein she joined hands with Shahrukh Khan yet again; incidentally the movie was slated to be Khan’s debut in cinema but had got delayed making Deewana as Khan’s official debut. Divya Bharti despite having a good run in Bollywood returned to Telegu shortly after when she decided to do at least one Telegu movie a year, starting by acting in Chittemma Mogudu opposite Mohan Babu, followed by other Hindi releases like, Dil Hi To Hai and Kshatriya was her last release before her death on April 5th, 1993. Bharti’s Posthumous releases ( 1993) Divya Bharti had finished shooting for three more movies before her death, which got released in later parts of the year 1993, just months after her death.
