Kirron Kher completed her schooling at Jabalpur, MP and completed her education at Chandigarh. She graduated from the Department of Indian Theatre of Punjab university.
Kirron has got a list of awards :- A Bengali film Bariwali(1999) Best actress, in 2003, IIFA for best supporting role(Devdas), Lux Style award for best actress (Khamosh Pani,2003, Apsara Award for Best actress in supporting role(Kurban, 2010),Color golden Petal awards for most Manoranjak personality and most dildar personality( 2011,2012),PTC Punjab film critics award for best actress, The IFFLA(Indian Film Festival Of Los Angeles for best actress(Khamosh Pani)and paid a tribute to her in 2004.Star Screen award for Rang De Basanti for best supporting actress. Kirron is a great admirer of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
She runs a non-profit organization called Laadli a campaign against Female Infanticide and Roko Cancer a campaign for cancer awareness.
She is a Member of Parliament from Chandigarh and has got the permission from the administration department to set up a film city in Sarangpur, Chandigarh.
Kiran Thakhar Singh is born in a Jat Sikh family and her childhood has been in Chandigarh. She believes in numerology and hence changed her spelling to Kirron much later.
In 1985 Kiron divorced her husband Gautam Berry and has a son Sikander from him. Kirron married Anupam Kher in 1985.
Kirron Anupam Kher is a very prominent celebrity not only in the film line but in theatre, television and in politics. She is a theatre artist, a film and television actress. Her roles are very memorable and audience remember her for her cameo roles.
She began her career in the early 80’s when she wanted to get into the films industry, but to no avail and she met her acquaintance from college, Anupam Kher who was also a struggling actor at that time, and they worked together in a play Chandpur Ki Champabai. In 1983 she made her debut in a Punjabi feature film Aasra Pyar Da then took a break till 1996. Her favorite actors are Sunil Dutt, Anupam Kher and Nargis Dutt. She has made a small appearance in the American series ER..Between 1983 and 1996 she appeared in a film titled Pestonjee based on a parsi family.
In mid-90” s she returned to theatre to act in a play called Saalgirah directed by Feroz Abbas Khan. Kiron Kher Today, Jagte Raho with Kiron and Purushetra were three shows hosted by her on television.
Her role in the film Devdas in 2002 was one of the most pivotal despite being a supporting one. She made her presence felt as Paro’s mother with a strong personality. Despite being a supporting star or doing character roles, her performance has always been raved by the audience and people in the film industry.
Shyam Benegal’ s Sardari Begum was her comeback film where she won a special jury award for her performance in 1997 at the National Film Awards, 2004 brought a beautiful film for her from Sanjay Leela Bhansali titled Devdas where she has portrayed a different kind of role as Aishwarya Rai” mom. Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit were also in the film. Kiron has acted in a Bengali film Bariwala which was directed by Rituparno Ghosh in 1999 and got critical acclaim.
In 2004 she acted with Anupam Kher in An American Tv series ‘Damaged’ as Mrs. Rasgotra, Played Sunanda in Prratima a tele serial, and a few more like Dil Na Jane Kyon, Isi Bahane and Chausath Panne. She is a host for India’s got talent presently along with Mallaika Arora and Karan Johar. Khamosh Pani(Silent Water) was a story about the plight of a woman abducted during the partition and won several awards for best actress like The Locarno International Film Award , Switzerland , Karachi International Film Festival, Karachi, and international film festivals in Ciepie, Argentina and Cape Town, South Africa and the film won the Golden Leopard for the best film.
Kiron has many successful movies to her credit like Main Hoon Na (2004), Veer Zara (2004) Hum Tum(2004), Mangal Pandey -The rising(2003)Fanaa(2006) kabhi Alvida Na Kehna(2006). She has done a couple of comedy roles in Singh Is Kinng, Dostana and Saas Bahu and Sensex.
