Sridevi’s loss became Ramya Krishnan’s gain What Ramya Krishnan could not achieve in her youth as a sex bomb, she has achieved that at the fag-end of her career as revered Rajmata Shivagami in the film Baahubali -1 and 2. Readers would be surprised to know that filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli had offered the role to Bollywood veteran Sridevi. Looking at the aura and composition of the character of Rajmata Shivagami, the role was ideally suited for Sridevi but Sridevi declined the role in lure of money. She failed to read the magnificence and the significance of the character. She demanded Rs 6 crore for the role. Hence left with no option Rajamouli had to hunt for an alternative. He found ageing Ramya Krishnan apt for the role but she too turned down the role as she was tied up with other films while Rajamouli wanted bulk date for the film. Disappointed Rajamouli requested Ramya and urged her to read the script. Fortunately when Ramya read the script, she was left dazed by the magnitude and the depth of the character of Rajmata Shivagami, which is the film’s cornerstone and offered Ramya, a life time opportunity to explore her talent to the hilt. She immediately called Rajamouli and arranged bulk dates for Baahublai, adjusting her other films, and even dropping out from few films to focus entirely in Rajmata Shivagami’s character! She fueled all her energy in the film and came out with flying colors. Her performance is equally great as the performance of yesteryear actress Nirupama Roy in Deewar or Nargis in Mother India. She is epitome of power, elegance and strength of mind. Her character has multi shade form a loving mother to a fuming Empress to a sympatric mother in climax. The role rides through a range of emotions in the course of the two films and in each shade she excels!! Truly as Rajmata Shivagami, Ramya Krishnan has been immortalized just as actress Nargis and Nirupama Roy have been immortalized as ideal Mothers in Mother India and Deewar, respectively.

Ramya Krishnan began her career in film as child artist Ramya was interested in acting since young age and learned Bharathanatyam and Kuchipudi. When she was in class VIII and just 13 year old she did her first Malayalam film Neram Pularumbol with South Indian cinema’s most popular Superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal in the lead.

Ramya Krishnan surprised film industry with her marriage to film director Krishna Vamsi! Like Bollywood beauty queen Sridevi, who had many handsome heroes who wooed and proposed to her, and she had married filmmaker Boney Kapoor, similarly, Ramya surprised the film industry by announcing her marriage to South film director and two times national award winner, Krishna Vamsi. The duo had been secretly dating and had kept their marriage and in 2003 they had married in a private ceremony. The couple is blessed by a son. Recent rumors were of their divorce that were doing the rounds in media but the couple has denied their separation.

Ramya Krishnan has worked in all South Indian languages films Ramya Krishnan’s first film as adult was Telugu film Bhale Mithrulu (1986) but she won stardom with Sutradharulu (1989). Later with commercial hit films like Alludugaru (1990), Allari Mogudu (1992), Major Chandrakanth (1993), Allari Priyudu (1993), Annamayya (1997) she became a star. Her best performance that won her first Filmfare award was opposite Rajinikanth in the film Padayappa (1999). She played a sexy vamp Neelambari. Her role is still remembered. The movie was a huge hit not only in South India but in Japan, Singapore, London and Paris. After Rajinikanth, she had the privilege to act opposite Kamal Hassan in the film Panchathanthiram. She has been paired with leading actors such as N. T. Rama Rao, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Krishna, Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, Jagapathi Babu, Rajendra Prasad, Srikanth, Rajasekhar, Jr. NTR, and Mahesh Babu. She has also worked with Mohanlal, Mammooty, Jayaram. In short she has worked in over 200 films in all the four South languages viz Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada Ramya Krishnan had a flop career in Bollywood In the mid late 80’s Ramya Krishnan was recognized as a sex bomb and she carried her tagline with aplomb. She had no hesitation in displaying her sexy figure and boosted that if she has sexy and gorgeous figure than why hide it from society. She was ruling the Southern film industry when Feroz Khan discovered her and introduced her in his film Dayavan in a single song Chaahe Meri Jaan Tu Lele…... the song became so hit that it was re-mixed in 2005 by singer Jolly Mukherjee. The film was flop but Ramya became hit and ruled Bollywood for a decade from 1988 to 1998. She worked with top Bollywood filmmaker like Subhash Ghai (Khal-nayak), Yash Chopra (Parampara), Mahesh Bhatt (Chaahat), David Dhawan's (Bade Miya Chote Miya), N.Chandra (Wajood) etc. In fact in Chaahat she had a good role opposite Shah Khan and in Bade Miya Chote Miya, she was heroine of Amitabh Bachchan.
