Renuka Shahane has done her BA in psychology from St Xavier’s college Mumbai & Post Graduation in clinical Psychology from the Mumbai University. She has worked as an anchor / presenter for a television show called Surabhi along with Siddharth Kak on Doordarshan (1993-2001)

She has won the Filmfare Award in the Best actress category for the Marathi movie ‘Aboli’. Renuka is the on the Advisory Committee & Tv Artists Association to handle the harassment in the Industry.

She was born in a Maharashtrian family. Her father was Lt. Cdr Vijay Kumar Shahane, an officer in the Indian Navy.  Her mother Shanta Gokhale a theatre personality and a film critic who worked mainly in Marathi theatre. Renuka was very young when her mother divorced her father and remarried Arun Khopkar (Filmmaker) and later divorced him.

Renuka was married to Vijay Kenkare (Theatre writer/director) soon divorced and later married Ashutosh Rana, a Bollywood actor (real name Ashutosh Neekhra), have two sons Satyendra and Shouryaman. Ashutosh and Renuka met at the sets of ‘Jayati’ by Hansal Mehta, actress/singer Rajeshwari Sachdev introduced both to each other, Initially, Renuka did have some issues as he was married before, but both of them have survived 19 years of marriage beautifully though they have their personal likes and dislikes like any other married couple.

Renuka is very patient, honest and a positive person. They had a traditional wedding, with very close family and friends at Ashutosh’s home town and Birth Place, Damoh, Madhya Pradesh on the 25th of May, 2001. Renuka is known as Renuka Neekhra now. Her hobbies are watching Food & Travel channels and cooking.

Renuka started her career with a Marathi film ‘Hach Sunbaichya Bhau’. Her image and role in this film was appreciated as it was a storehouse of traditional values, and her smile was so tantalizing that it became famous in every household.  She has acted in many Marathi films and directed a film titled Rita adapted from her mother’s novel Rita Welingkar, where she plays an important role of a friend, guide and philosopher of Rita, Jackie Shroff, Pallavi Joshi, Suhasini Mulay and Mohan Agashe were part of this film. Her role in ‘Hum Aapke Hai Kaun as Salman Khan’s Bhabhi made her very popular and a much loved character who dies young in the film starring opposite Mohnish Bahl.

She has also acted in two Telegu films which became hits, played a strong willed woman in the film Imtihan.Some of her movies are listed here like Masoom in 1996,, Tunnu Ki Tina in 1997 , Tum Jiyo hazaron Saa in 2002 ,Ek Alag Mausam, in 2003,  Dil ne jise apna kaha 2004 release, Highway, 3 storeys her last Hindi film was released in 2018, Bucket List a Marathi film in 2018, Money was a Telugu,1993, Money Money - Telegu 1995 and Dusari Gosht beautiful  Marathi 2014 film.

Her Marathi serial Te Aath Diwas was popular and she acted in the Hindi serial, Circus which was the first debut for super star Shah Rukh Khan and his entry into the entertainment industry.

Renuka has done around 21 serials on Television. Madhuri Dixit and Renuka are coming together after 23 years in a film. She has acted in a special episode of the tv show ‘Khitchdi’ (as Bawaskar Madam), then in a web series called “What The Folks’in 2017 , a journey on modern families breaking the generation gap and growing to love each other. She has acted in tv serials like Sailaab, Ghutan (as Shamli), Kora Kagaz as Pooja, Kabhi Aise Geet Gaya Karo as Amita, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 4 (Contestant), Awaaz Maharashtracha (Host), ladies First(co Host).
