Swaroop is born and raised in a Gujarati household.

She always wanted to become an actress. In 1979, she won the Miss India Contest and then started getting offers in the Hindi film industry. After working in a few Gujarat plays. She met Paresh Rawal at the theatre and they both have always been theatre enthusiasts so shared many things in common which brought them closer. She saw him at one of the inter college plays and could not take her eyes of him so went on the backstage to meet him and from there on they never looked back. Her father asked her to enroll in the Miss India contest., though she was reluctant, spoke to Paresh Rawal , and her brother and then agreed to go for it.

She won the title and then there was a bit skeptism from Paresh but thought about it and then proposed to her and they married by inviting a very few close friends and relatives to a very private and a small wedding in 1987 which took place under big old trees instead of the usual Pandal and celebrations. Their wedding was held at the Laxmi Narayan Temple in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Her Favorite stars are Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha.

Swaroop met Paresh Rawal when they were in college and dated for 17 years before they decided to get married in 1987. They have two sons named Aniruddh worked as an (Assistant Director for Sultan and with Nasiruddin Shah in his plays, Aditya the younger son is a  (Screenplay writer). Their marriage has been for four decades so far and Swaroop says there has never been a dull moment in their lives and are a support for each other in every aspect of their life.  

She made her film debut with the film Nakhuda and Naram Garam both the films which were released in 1981. Nakhuda ,  a story about different relationships. She has also acted in lots of television serials. Swaroop Sampat is remembered as Renu (Late Shafi Inamdar’s wife) in her television ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’, Rakesh Bedi and Satish shah were also in pivotal roles, which was a sitcom with funny happenings and had 67 episodes and a much loved character that she plays in the serial.

After her first film Swaroop got many offers and went on to act in films like Sawaal, Himmatwala, is an actress, model and educationist.  She acted in films like Himmatwala, Lorie, Sawaal, Karishma,  Bah, u Ki Awaaz, Saathiya,  Saptapadi which was produced by Amitabh Bachchan,  Ki and Ka and her most recent was in Uri:The Surgical strike in which she plays the role of a mother to Neha and Vihaan which was released in 2019, the story of Indian Military against the militants. 

She was a popular household name with her role as Shanti in the Television serials like Yeh duniya gazab ki and  All the Best.

Swaroop has directed a few gujarati   and Marathi plays and acted with her husband actor Paresh Rawal. She has acted in a web series’ The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family’ in 2018 which stars Kay Kay Menon and Barun Sobti and Swaroop returned to the screen after two years. Her appearance in a Bikini in the Reena Roy- Kamal Hassan film Karishma shocked the entire nation. Swaroop has acted in many television commercials too and walked the ramp too.

Presently she trains primary school teachers in Gujarat using theatre skills and works under the Gujarat council for Research Training.

She has refused many roles in television and films as now her passion is to train and teach children so she travels all over India and uses drama techniques inspired by Aamir Khan’s movie ‘Taare zameen Par’.
