90’s Hit Film ‘Aashiqui’ Star Rahul Roy Turned Out To Be One Hit Wonder – Part – 4

In the early 90’s eminent filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, instead of introducing film star children, introduced two raw and unconventional looking actors Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal in his love story Aashiqui (1990). The music of the film became a massive hit and the film became a blockbuster at the box-office. Rahul Roy was even nominated by Filmfare as Best Actor for his superlative role in the film Aashiqui . The success of the film automatically opened a flood gate to Rahul Roy but tragically, Roy failed to retain stardom. Bhatt tried to review Rahul Roy‘s career by making a hit autobiographical TV film Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee but in vain. Roy made headlines in 2007 from Sony Entertainment’s TV reality show ‘Bigg Boss‘ by winning the finals.

Tall, dark and dusky, Anu Aggarwal, after Aashiqui , won fame and did big films like Rakesh Roshan‘s King Uncle and lead protagonist in Sawan Kumar‘s film Khal-Naaikaa opposite Jeetendra and Jaya Prada. But unfortunately, both films were a flop. Further, in a road accident, she went into a coma and changed her life.

Like Mahesh Bhatt, another top filmmaker Subhash Ghai, instead of favouring star-children preferred a newcomer in his magnum opus film Saudagaar (1991). In this film, Subhash Ghai had brought Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar together, the two legendary actors after a long gap of 32 years! Hence to make the film’s casting more astounding, Ghai wished to rope in Aamir Khan. But when Aamir declined the role, Subhash Ghai decided to introduce a new face and that’s how Vivek Mushran got the ticket to Bollywood. The movie’s success opened doors for Vivek Mushran but due to the wrong choice of movies his career went haphazard and he had to pack his bags. Now is back doing TV serials. You can identify him as he plays the role of Shweta Tiwari‘s husband on Sony TV Serial ‘Parvarish’.

Brother of Anil Kapoor and Boney KapoorSanjay Kapoor had a disastrous debut because his debut film Prem got so delayed that the subject of the film was stale and even the films’ music had lost lustre. Hence the film was a huge flop at the box-office. Nevertheless, after Raja (1995) in which Sanjay Kapoor was paired with Madhuri DixitSanjay Kapoor did sign many movies like Auzaar (1997) and Sirf Tum, etc. but all failed to make it big as an actor.
