A comedy of errors is what one can call this film. Though the film was Dharmendra and SharmilaTagore in the lead role, Amitabh Bachchan as Sukumar Sinha a professor of English in the film stands out in his role as the friend to Professor Parimal Tripathi essayed by Dharmendra who is fond of playing pranks. Sulekha Chaturvedi essayed by Sharmila Tagore, is his student and Parimal Tripathi fall in love and get married. Her sister and brother in law have yet to meet him and Sulekha is in awe of her brother in law. Parimal decides to show his wife that he is no less mortal! Turns up at his house as his new driver!
Sulekha and Parimal both play pranks on the brother-in-law essayed by Om Prakash who is suspecting closeness between the two. On the other hand Sukumar Sinha falls in love with Vasudha essayed by Jaya Bhaduri. But he has to pose as Sulekha’s husband to avoid the confrontation by her brother in law. After the confusion and the drama that unfolds between the four due to the pranks played by Parimal, the film ends on a happy note when the couple admit they were playing pranks and the film revolved around these funny mishaps.
The film is directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, produced by N.C. Sippy, starring Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore, Jaya Bhaduri, Om Prakash, Asrani, Usha Kiran and David. The songs from this film were popular and were by S.D Burman, lyricist is AnandBakshi which were simply amazing. The song, ‘Ab Ke Sajan Saawan mein’ was one of the most popular songs.
The bungalow in which the Chupke Chupke was shot, was actually .N.C Sippy’s bungalow . Later Amitabh Bachchan had bought it from him and its now called Jalsa where the actor stays with his family in Juhu.
