The very first season of the Bigg Boss franchise debuted on Sony TV in 2006. Bigg Boss was the Indian adoption of the Dutch reality show 'Big Brother.' The theme of the show was to lock a group of celebrities in house arrest under surveillance to witness the vivid and flawed dynamic of human behaviour in confined spaces.
The Indian version of Big Brother started from season 1 in 2006, till now has completed 17 successful seasons. The very first season of Bigg Boss premiered on Sony TV in 2007. Since its inception, the show was received well by the audience. After looking at the response to 1st season the makers decided to come up with more seasons. Bigg Boss 1 was hosted by Arshad Warsi. The show started with 15 contestants from various backgrounds getting locked up in the 'Bigg Boss House.' Model and actor Rahul Roy was the first-ever winner in the history of Bigg Boss. He was well-known for his roles in movies like Aashiqui, Junoon and Gumrah. Rahul won a whooping cash price of ₹1 crore. Carol Gracias became the runner-up in Bigg Boss 1. Rakhi Sawant and Bobby Darling made this season a memorable one. In Bigg Boss 1 more than '50 cameras' were used in the Bigg Boss house.
Bigg Boss Season 2 (2008)
Hosted by Big Brother winner Shilpa Shetty this season Ashutosh Kaushik was crowned as the winner. He also won a cash prize of ₹1 crore. Ashutosh also won MTV Hero Honda Roadies 5.0 before appearing on Bigg Boss 2. Raja Chaudhary was the runner-up of the year 2008.
Bigg Boss Season 3 (2009)
The third season of the controversial reality show Bigg Boss was hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. Vindu Dara Singh won the third season of Bigg Boss and took home ₹1 crore. He was famous for playing Hanuman in Jai Veer Hanuman. This year the show declared two runners up Pravesh Rana and Poonam Dhillon as first and second runners up respectively.
Bigg Boss Season 4 (2011)
Since Bigg Boss 4 Salman Khan came on the board as the host of the show. One of the contestants from the show Dolly Bindra hailed the season with her blunt personality. Her ‘Baap Pe Jana Nahi' dialogue is still remembered by the audience. Shweta Tiwari emerged as the winner of this season with prize money of ₹1 crore. The Great Khali was declared as the runner-up of Bigg Boss 4.
Bigg Boss Season 5 (2012)
Known for the 'pooja what is this behaviour?' incident this season of Bigg Boss was hosted by two hosts- Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. Kumkum – Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan fame Juhi Parmar won Bigg Boss 5 and took home a prize amount of ₹1 crore. Mahek Chahal was the runner-up of this season.
Bigg Boss Season 6 (2013):
Bigg Boss 6 was won by the iconic TV vamp 'Komolika' aka Urvashi. From this season Salman Khan became the ultimate face and host of Bigg Boss. Imam Siddiqui was the first runner-up while Sana Khan was the second runner-up. Urvashi won ₹50 Lakh.
Bigg Boss Season 7 (2013)
This season was based on the theme of 'Heaven and Hell.' It was one of the most loved seasons of Bigg Boss. Gauahar Khan was declared the winner of Bigg Boss 7 and took home ₹50 Lakh. She managed to stay relevant until now by working in TV shows and movies post Bigg Boss. Tanisha Mukerji was the runner-up of Bigg Boss 7.
Bigg Boss Season 8 (2015)
In the 8th season of Bigg Boss makers tried to experience a bit and introduced 'Bigg Boss Halla Bol.' The concept of this experiment was similar to Ultimate Big Brother. It was merged with Bigg Boss 8. In Bigg Boss Halla Bol, five contestants from previous seasons entered the Bigg Boss House to compete with the finalists of Bigg Boss 8. Bigg Boss 8 was hosted by Salman Khan and Bigg Boss Halla Bol was hosted by Farah Khan. TV actor Gautam Gulati won this merged season and took home a cash prize worth ₹50 Lakh.
Bigg Boss Season 9 (2016)
The ultimate reality show winner Prince Narula participated in 2016 and won season 9 of Bigg Boss. Before Bigg Boss he two of the most popular M TV shows Roadies 12 and Splitsvilla 8. He won ₹50 Lakh on Bigg Boss. He met his now-wife Yuvika Chaudhary in the Bigg Boss house. There were two runner-ups in Bigg Boss 9 Karishma Tanna-1st Runner and 2nd Runner up Pritam Singh.
Bigg Boss Season 10 (2017)
In Bigg Boss 10 for the very first the doors of the Bigg Boss house were opened for common people in India. Manveer Gurjar won this season and took home ₹50 Lakh. Bani J became the first runner-up. In this season Bigg Boss introduced the new element of the show ‘Unseen-Undekha.’
Bigg Boss Season 11 (2018)
One of the most loved seasons of Bigg Boss by audience- 'Bigg Boss 11.' Shilpa Shinde emerged as the winner this season and Hina Khan was the runner-up. Shilpa won ₹ 44 Lakh. This season became the most entertaining and the highest TRP season in Bigg Boss' history.
Bigg Boss Season 12 (2018)
This season of Bigg Boss didn't live up to the hype of the previous one. It emerged as one of the most boring seasons. Dipika Kakar aka Faiza Ibrahim who became household name after Sasural Simar Ka won this season. She won ₹30 Lakh. Cricketer S Sreesanth became the runner-up of the show.
Bigg Boss Season 13 (2020)
Bigg Boss 13 was one of the greatest and most loved seasons of Bigg Boss. It was also one of the most watched seasons. Sidharth Shukla won Bigg Boss 13 and took home ₹50 lakh. Asim Riaz was a runner-up in Bigg Boss 13. This season featured Shehnaz Gill who became very popular after Bigg Boss 13. The winner of this season Sidharth Shukla surprisingly passed away in 2021 after suffering a heart attack at the age of 40.
Bigg Boss Season 14 (2021)
Rubina Dilak who gained fame after shows like Chotti Bahu and Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki won the Bigg Boss 14. She took home the cash prize worth ₹36 lakh. Music composer Rahul Vaidya became the runner-up of this season.
Bigg Boss Season 15 (2022)
Marathi movie actress Tejasswi Prakash won Bigg Boss 15 by beating Pratik Sehajpal who became the runner-up. Tejasswi is well known for her role in Naagin 6. She met her now boyfriend Karan Kundra on the show. In this season winner took home a cash prize ₹40 lakh.
Bigg Boss Season 16 (2023)
Rapper MC Stan won the 16th season of Bigg Boss by generating more votes than runner-up Shiv Thakare. This season was also one of the most watched seasons of Bigg Boss. Abdu Rizik Singer and boxer from Tajikistan was one of the most loved contestants of this season. MC Stan won ₹31.8 in Bigg Boss 16.
Bigg Boss Season 17 (2024)
The recently concluded Bigg Boss 17 will surely join the list of one of the most-watched seasons of Bigg Boss. The grand finale of Bigg Boss 17 took place on last Sunday. Stand-up comedian and rapper Munawar Faruqui won this season. Abhishek Kumar and Mannara Chopra became the first and second runner-up. The couple Ankita Lokhande and Vicky Jain were in the headlines during the show. This season will be remembered by them. Ankita was host Salman Khan's favourite contestant. Munawar Faruqui won ₹50 Lakh as the cash prize.
