Karan Kapoor will always be the trademark face of dye brand “Bombay Dyeing” for every Indian. Karan Kapoor although only with a very small number of films in his filmography has made himself known Bollywood. He has made his mark in photography and has even won the International Photography Award in the year 2009, which is a rare feat for any Indian photographer. He is the only Bollywood actor who has been catapulted to the level of a major professional photographer.
Karan Kapoor was born to the prestigious Kapoor clan of Bollywood as the son of poplar actor Shashi Kapoor and actress Jennifer Kendel. The grandson of legendary Hindi actor Prithviraj Kapoor, Kapoor was bound to enter cinema at some time but he had other plans, even after being brought up amidst the glitz and glamour of Bollywood he initially was drawn to photography and also had a personal series of photography with his travels at a young age and initially worked as supporting artists for Shyam Benegal’s Junoon and his parents production 36 Chowringhee Lanein the years 1978 and 1984 respectively and later on he was asked by Mrs Maureen Wadia to appear for an advertisement for the brand “Bombay Dyeing” as a model in 1984 , which became a big break for him and the series of AD’s became well noted among the masses which subsequently led to his Bollywood mainstream acting debut in the year Sultanat in 1986
Karan Kapoor is married to Lorna Kapoor after a long relationship and they are now settled in London. The couple has two children; A daughter Aliya Kapoor and a son Zach Kapoor.
Mainstream debut in Bollywood (1986) Acclaimed director Mukul .S. Anand was the first director to place Karan Kapoor in the mainstream Hindi cinema circle with his ensemble drama flick Sultanat which was also a special release for two other reasons, being the official debut of actress Juhi Chawla and also the first on screen pairing of Dharmendra with his son Sunny Deol. The movie had Karan Kapoor playing the love interest of the character played by Juhi Chawla in a supporting role. He had nothing spectacular to do in a side-lined role but ended up making a successful debut even though the movie faired only moderately well. Further two film acting stint ( 1987-1988) Karan Kapoor then went on to act next in the ensemble film Loha in the year 1987 along with Dharmendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Amrish Puri and Mandakini in the lead. The movie saw Karan Kapoor playing a drug dealer who gets drawn in to a hostage rescue mission only to have other plans in mind on the situation. The film was one of the highest grossers of the year and its music album was a tremendous crowd puller especially with songs like “Isa Pir Na Musa Pir”. The movie which was a major success in Dharmendra’s career. Karan Kapoor was seen last in the crime drama Afsar in the year 1988.
