Born into a Hindu Family in Kolkatta. Her grandfather Adinath Sen was the wealthiest Businessman in Kolkatta, her great grand father was a Divan to the Tripura Maharaja,

Moon moon has learnt drawing from one of India’s greatest artist Jamini Roy, taught in the Ballygunge Government School, and Graphics at Chitrabani (A school teaching film Techniques). She has done her schooling at Loreto Convent, Shillong & at Loreto House, Kolkatta. Graduated from Somerville college, Oxford. Received her Masters in comparative Literature from Jadavpur University, Kolkatta.

Moon moon Sen had joined Trinamool Congress in the year 2014 and won the Lok Sabha Polls under Bankura Constituency and defeated CPI’s Nine-Time MP .  In 2019, she lost the Asansol in Lok Sabha election to Babul Supriyo of BJP

Her late mother-in-law , Ila Devi was the daughter of Indira Raje who was the princess of Cooch Behar and also the elder sister of Gayatri Devi the Maharani of Jaipur.  

Moon moon Sen is very religious and despite the way she portrayed herself,  she was committed to her family , respected her husband , who was her constant support during her film career. She was very attached to her mother , actress and noted film star Suchitra Sen.

Moon moon started her career in Films & Television after marriage and motherhood. Her debut film was ‘Andar Baahar’(1994) but there was a controversy about her daring role in it, She has acted in 100 days with Madhuri Dixit, Zakhmi Dil (1994). In 2003 she did an unsuccessful film called kuch To Hai, then acted in a Telugu film ‘Sirivennela’ directed by the legendary K. Vishwanathan.

Moon moon was always compared to her mother Suchitra Sen who was an amazing actress. She has acted in television serials and Bengali Tele films. In 2004 her film ‘My Karma’ directed by Korak Day brought her international fame for her tough and sweet role. Totally she has done 32 Hindi films, 20 Bengali Films, 4 Malayalam films, 3 Kannada films, 2 Telugu films, 1 Tamil and one English.
