Cherukuri Ramoji Rao was an Indian businessman, media entrepreneur, and film producer who lived from 16 November 1936 until 8 June 2024. He was the head of the Ramoji Group, which also owned the movie production business Usha Kiran Movies, the Eenadu daily, the ETV Network of TV networks, and the largest film production facility in the world, Ramoji Film City. Margadarsi Chit Fund, Dolphin Group of Hotels, Kalanjali shopping mall, Priya pickles, and Mayuri Film Distributors are some of his other commercial endeavors.
For his contributions to Telugu film, he has won the National Film Award, five Nandi Awards, and four Filmfare Awards South. India's second-highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, was given to him in 2016 in recognition of his achievements in journalism, writing, and education.
In Pedaparupudi, Krishna District, Madras Presidency, India, on November 16, 1936, Cherukuri Ramoji Rao was born into an agrarian family. The Ramoji Group owns the following businesses: the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad; Priya Foods; Ramadevi Public School; ETV Network; Kalanjali; Ushakiran Movies; and the daily Eenadu. In Andhra Pradesh, he served as chairman of the Dolphin Group of Hotels.
Cherukuri Suman, Rao's younger son, passed away on September 7, 2012, from leukemia.
At the age of 87, Cherukuri Ramoji Rao passed away in Hyderabad on June 8, 2024.
