Raja is a hard working and talented man living a poor life with his widowed mother. His talents and acting capabilities get him a place in a drama troupe. He then travels from place to place with the troupe and his mother also joins him. One day when they stop at a village, Raja falls in love with the zamindar’s beautiful daughter Bhuvana. They carry on their affair with the help of her pet peacock. When the zamindar comes to know of this alliance, he is upset but puts a condition on Raja that if he wants to marry his daughter, he must sever all ties with his poor mother. This condition does not go down well with Raja and he refuses to agree. Left with no choice, Bhuvana elopes with Raja and joins his drama troupe. This makes Bhuvana’s cousin very angry who was in the hopes of usurping her wealth by marrying her. The couple will not have to fight all odds to stay together. The film is directed by R Thyagarajan and produced by G Moolchand. The music is composed by Shanker Jaikishen. The star cast includes Kamal Hasan, Rajnikanth, Sridevi and Madhu Malini.
