Gopi travels to Bombay from his village in order to find himself a lucrative employment. Once there, he is approached by a few men who keep referring to him as Jhonny. He then realizes that he is the look-a-like of a man named Jhonny and the latter seems to be a very important person. Then Gopi comes face to face with the real Johnny and he is shocked to see how much their faces resemble each other. Turns out, Jhonny is a kingpin in the underworld and has a solid criminal background. He sings and performs during the day to cover up his illegal activities. Jhonny then asks Gopi to take his place whenever needed so when the cops come looking for him, they arrest the wrong man. Meanwhile Gopi is falsely arrested for the crime of Jhonny and he must prove his innocence before it is too late. The film is directed by Ashim Samanta and produced by Shakti Samanta. The music is composed by R D Burman. The star cast includes Mithun Chakraborty, Bindiya Goswami, Aarti Gupta, Leela Mishra, Kamal Kapoor, Mac Mohan, Dinesh Thakur, Tarun Ghosh, Jagdish Raaj, Sudhir and Madhu Malini.
