The police force of Mumbai is working day and night to control the high crime rate in the city. Illegal activities like smuggling, trading of ammunition and drugs have all wrecked havoc for the people and its law enforcement agencies. The criminal activities are jointly shared by Yusuf Pathan, played by Irrfan Khan, Manik Rao, played by Manoj Joshi and Gautam Walia, played by Jackie Shroff. They are the kingpins who control all the trades. The Detection Unit cops of the Mumbai Crime Branch are vowing to stop this ruthless business once and for all but isn’t going to be easy.
The police team comprises of inspector Vikram, played by Shatrughan Sinha, who is on the look out for easy cases to handle, Appa Kadam, played by Sunil Shetty usually nabs the henchmen rather than their bosses and constable Ansari, played by Paresh Rawal, who is contented with whatever he is doing and doesn’t take much stress. With the appointment of their new senior things are about to change for the better. DCP Hari Om, played by Akshay Kumar, notices the slack in the officers and that rules are not taken seriously.
During one of the encounters the henchmen of a notorious gangster end up killing Ansari. This infuriates Vikram and he swears revenge. He joins forces with Hari and promises to clear the city of the criminal grime. One by one they nab the mafia bosses and destroy their businesses. The movie is directed by Madhur Bhandarkar and produced by Firoz. A Nadiadwala. The music is composed by Anu Malik.
