Ajanabee is a 1974 film produced by Girija Samanta and directed by Shakti Samanta. Starring Rajesh Khanna and Zeenat Aman in the lead roles. Supporting stars are Prem Chopra, Asrani, Madan Puri, Yogeeta Bali and Asit Sen.  The song by R. D Burman ‘ Hum Dono Do Premi’ is a train sequence song that got very popular.

The story begins with a suspense when Sonia (Yogita Bali) gets down from the taxi to board a train on a railway platform in a remote hill station with a bag filled with jewellery.  She misses her train and has to spend the night at the railway platform.  Rohit Kumar Saxena (Rajesh Khanna) the station master offers her help and escorts her to his quarters to rest till the next train arrives.  She deposits the bag of jewelry with Rohit for safe keeping, informing her that she is on the run from some goons who are after her jewelry which she has inherited from her mother.

Rohit goes back to the flashback …. His love story that began with him falling in love with Reshmi (Zeenat Aman) wealthy and pretty girl, daughter of Diwan Sardarilal who is against their marriage as Rohit comes from a middle class background. However, the lovers get married much against the wishes of her father.  After their marriage Reshmi conceives but has also registered her name for a beauty pageant and wins the Miss India Crown that requires her to travel abroad.  Reshmi an ambitious girl decides to go in for abortion but Rohit opposes her decision.  They couple quarrel as she has lost her child and Reshmi goes back to her father and files for a divorce and moves on with her life.   He is reminded of being humiliated by Reshmi’s father for being a middle class and poor. He decides to earn enough to win back Reshmi’s love. Much later he comes to know Reshmi had not aborted their child but she had slipped leading to a fall and her miscarriage.

As luck favours him coming back to the present, he is with the suitcase that is filled with wealth and thinks of killing Sonia to take possession of the wealth, and good sense prevails and he decides its not right . But he is in for a rude shock the next morning when he is accused of murder of Sonia, a crime that he has not  committed. 

Will Rohit be able to plead not guilty and aquit himself from the heinous charges levied against him?  Will Reshmi come to his rescue and will the real culprit be caught?
