Akayla is directed by Ramesh Sippy, produced by Mushir-Riaz, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Amrita Singh, Jackie Shroff, Meenakshi Seshadri, Aditya Pancholi. Keith Stevenson, Kiran Juneja. Released on 8th November 1991.

Vijay Verma (Amitabh Bachchan) is a lonely CID Inspector who has a younger brother Ajay Verma (Aditya Pancholi) who studies abroad. Shekhar (Jackie Shroff) & Seema (Meenakshi Seshadri) are Vijay’s good friends.

Vijay arrests Tony Braganza (Keith Stevenson), but is shocked to see him released as his lawyer shows a false video in court. Vijay happens to see a movie on twins and realises that Tony can have a twin, becomes true, his name is Jojo who covers all the crimes for the brother. Vijay arrests him but he escapes and hides in Shekhar’s house.

Shekhar realises that both are wanted criminals, contacts Vijay but unfortunately Shekhar & Seema are killed. Vijay is sad, upset over this, but his comforted by a bar dancer Ruby (Amrita Singh) , falls in love with her. Now Ajay Verma is on the hit list so Vijay goes in search of the twins when Commissioner of Police (Shashi Kapoor) asks him not to take the law in his hands. Does Vijay find the twins?
