Arun Anand has been happily married to his wife for many years but they are unable to conceive a child. He later meets his secretary Kiran and gets attracted to her. They soon fall in love and begin an affair. Unfortunately she becomes pregnant and this brings a host of complications for Arun as he does not want his wife to know about the affair. He thus pays a hefty sum to a greedy politician named Pratap and asks him to marry Kiran and then divorce her. This way the child will get his name. Pratap does as told but doesn’t divorce Kiran, who gives birth to a boy named Varun.
Years later Varun grows up and refuses to acknowledge Arun and only considers Pratap as his father. Later a fights breaks out between Pratap and his employer where they kidnap Varun and threaten to kill him. The film is directed and produced by Dev Anand. The music is composed by R D Burman. The star cast includes Dev Anand, Raj Babbar, Raakhee, Smita Patil, Sunil Anand, Biswajeet, Rakesh Bedi and Natasha Sinha.
