Raj Malhotra, played by Akshay Kumar, lives with his brother, sister-in-law and niece. They later move to Dehra Dun, where Raj meets Kajal, played by Lara Dutta. They both become good friends and remain so even after growing up into adults. Raj, however secretly loves Kajal but is unable to tell her. Meanwhile he gets selected in the Indian Air Force and goes off for training for a year and a half. On returning he first goes to propose to Kajal but sadly he learns that she is in love with a businessman named Karan Singhania and will soon marry him. On their wedding reception Kajal comes to know of Raj’s feelings for her and feels sorry for him, asking him to move on.
Raj then re-locates to South Africa for his training. There he meets the beautiful and vivacious Jiya, played by Priyanka Chopra. They both become friends and she soon falls in love with him, however he is still in love with Kajal and unable to forget her. He then leaves for India and on arrival home he finds Jiya already there, living as a paying guest. All her attempts to woo him fail as he has no interest in any other woman. However after his family makes him realize he finally gives in any agrees to marry Jiya. Soon he learns that Jiya is Kajal’s sister-in-law and her husband died in a helicopter accident. Kajal blames herself and attempts suicide. Raj then makes her understand and helps her to move on.
Jiya then realizes that Raj and Kajal are close and tells them that they can never forget their past love. And they arrange for Kajal and Raj’s marriage. The movie is directed by Raj Kanwar and produced by Suneel Darshan. The music is composed by Nadeem-Shravan.
