Ayan Ranjan, played by Ayushmann Khurrana is a Europe returned but Indian raised IPS officer. He is posted in a police station the remote village of Lalgaon, where caste and community disparity is aplenty. Ayan takes one look at the people and ambience around and immediately senses that there is much more trouble in the village than he is told of. He is baffled by the differentiations people make even today on the basis of castes, creed and religion. Barely settled into his jurisdiction, Ayan is handed over a case of three missing girls, who worked at a local factory.
The two out of three missing girls’ violated bodies are found hanging from a village tree. The case that seems to be like a suicide to a layman has a bigger sinister crime hidden in it. The search for the third missing girl begins in full swing. Every corner of the village is searched, from mucky swamps to isolated huts. Its heartbreaking for Ayan to see the plight of the parents of the girls. In spite of receiving several threats and being discouraged from getting any success in solving the case, Ayan is undeterred and promises to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The movie is written, directed and produced by Anubhav Sinha. It is co-produced by Zee Studios. The music is composed by Anurag Saikia, Piyush Shankar, Divine and Gingger. The cinematography is by Ewan Mulligan.
