Ranganathan lives a middle class lifestyle with his wife and daughter Kokila. They also have a maid Manga living with them who is more like a family member. One day Ranganathan has to travel for work and decides to keep a paying guest. This guest is Sathya, who is a bank executive. Kokila and Sathya fall in love and decide to get married after her father is back. Later one night when Manga and Sathya are alone at home, one thing leads to another and before they know it, they get intimate. Sathya soon forgets about the incident but Manga doesn’t, even though she knows Kokila loves Sathya. Manga comes to Sathya and informs him one day that she is pregnant. He asks her to abort the baby and this shatters all of Manga’s dreams. She leaves the household and goes to her village. Kokila who returns from a college trip finds Sathya missing and is shocked to learn that he has vacated the house and left.
After a few years Kokila goes to a village as a doctor. There she accidentally meets Sathya and is shocked to now that he has married Manga and they both have a daughter who they have named Kokila. The movie is directed by Balu Mahendru and produced by Mahesh Bhatt and Amit Khanna. The music is composed by llyas Raja. The star cast includes Akshay Kumar, Rameshwari, Ramesh Arvind, Revathi and Heera Rajgopal.
