Avtaar is a honest and hard working man who is employed at a factory. He lives a peaceful life with his wife Radha and sons Ramesh and Chander. He works hard day and night to save money, so that his sons will have the best education and choose a career of their choice. One day things take a turn for the worse when Avtaar has a horrific accident at the factory that leaves him crippled. His boss however compensates him well for the accident and he no longer can work. Years pass and Ramesh and Chander have grown up. The former marries Sudha while the younger son is still studying and hopes to marry his love Renu. One day Avtaar and Radha decide to go on a pilgrimage and ask Ramesh to book tickets for them but he tells them that he has no money. When Radha falls sick one day their servant Sewak goes to Sudha’s room to get money. Sudha later accuses him of theft. Avtaar is furious and asks them to leave the house but turns out, the house is now in Sudha’s name. Avtaar and Radha are even deceived by their younger son Chander and leave the house with Sewak to live in a hutment. The film is directed and produced by Mohan Kumar. The music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal. The star cast includes Rajesh Khanna, Shabana Azmi, A K Hangal, Yunus Perwaiz, Gulshan Grover and Sachin.
