Kishanlal is an honest man and his daughter Mala works as a maid in a wealthy man’s house. Seeing Mala’s good behavior and nature, her employer asks Kishanlal for her hand in marriage for his youngest son Gopal. Mala helps out in the house and is a sweet-natured and understanding daughter-in-law, however the others are the opposite and try to ill-treat her. After Gopal’s father’s death, he and Mala move out of the mansion leaving his mother with her remaining sons and their wives who ill-treat her. Gopal becomes a famous musician and earns good money. His brothers however mortgage their palatial home and throw their mother out of the house. They then live off Gopal’s money and he is of the impression that his mother is at a pilgrimage to a holy place.
The film is directed by Kalpataru and produced by S K Jain, B K Jaiswal and Mohanji Prasad. The music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal and the screenplay is written by K B Pathak. The star cast includes Shammi Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Sushma Seth, Satish Shah, Raj Kiran, Gulshan Grover, Kader Khan, Ashok Saraf, Pran, Asrani, Aruna Irani, Shoma Anand and Jayshree T.
