The story of Bandit Queen revolves around Phoolan Devi and how she was sexually exploited as a young girl, especially since she belonged to a lower caste group. She was married young and struggled to cope with all the exploitation, until she decided to fight back and take revenge for her humiliation and torture. She joins a gang of Mallah who teaches her to be brave and self-sufficient. Soon Phoolan makes her own gang and becomes a notorious and most feared gangster of the village. She then joins politics are gains immense fame and recognition all over India.
The movie is directed by Shekhar Kapur and produced by Bobby Bedi. The music is composed by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Roger White. The cinematography is by Ashok Mehta. The star cast includes Seema Biswas, Nirmal Pandey, Aditya Shrivastava, Ram Charan Nirmalker, Saurabh Shukla, Manoj Bajpai, Raghuvir Yadav, Rajesh Vivek, Anirudh Agarwal, Govind Namdeo, Shekhar Kapur and Savitri Raekwar.
