Durga Devi has three sons; Ram, Laxman and Bharat. She is proud of having all sons and decides will give all her wealth to her first grandson. However when her first two sons marry their wives give birth to daughters. This upsets Durga Devi and she throws them out of the family. The younger son Bharat, played by Govinda falls in love with a poor girl called Priya. However his mother is not happy about this development and asks Bharat not to associate with such a lowly girl. His father on the other hand gives him Rs 2 lakhs and allows him to marry Priya. Soon Durga Devi comes to know and makes Priya do all the house work.

 

Soon Priya becomes pregnant and is told that she will bring a lot of happiness in the family. Durga Devi assumes that she will give birth to a boy. When the doctor tells Bharat that they are having a girl not a boy he is worried. So they play along saying they are having a boy. On the day of the delivery, Bharat’s friend Mulchand’s wife also goes into labor. But his wife delivers a girl and Mulchand’s wife delivers a boy. So they make a deal where the child will be with them during the day and return him in the night. So the babies are exchanged to deceive Durga Devi. Soon Durga comes to know of her fault of wanting a grandson and the stress she has caused her children. She accepts all her granddaughters with open arms.

 

The movie is directed by Rama Rao Tatineni and produced by Rajeev Kumar. The music is composed by Viju Shah and the lyrics are written by Dev Kohli and Maya Govind. The star cast includes Prem Chopra, Laxmikant Berde, Birbal, Johnny Lever, Ashok Saraf, Mohan Joshi, Ram Mohan, Razzak Khan and Aruna Irani.
