Beyond the Clouds, the B +film is directed by the Academy Award nominated director Majid Majidi who was nominated for ‘Children of Heaven’ with an international repute, Majidi ventured out with his first India based Hindi film with the star cast Ishaan Khatter, Malavika Mohanan, Gautam Ghose and Tannishtha Chatterjee.
The setting like Slumdog Millionaire is in the slums of Mumbai where a poverty stricken protagonist Amir (Ishaan Khatter) is a street smart who manages to find success in drug dealing for a brothel owner and has an ambition to make it rich with his shrewd spirit and bigger dreams. With the clandestine profession he takes on comes to the notice of his concerned older sister Tara(Malavika Mohanan) who works at the open air dhobi ghaat owned by Akshi(Gautam Ghose). But his ambition gets disrupted when Tara is molested by her boss Akshi and in trying to save herself she hits him with a rock out of desperation for her self defense which lands him immobilized and unable to speak on his hospital bed. Tara faces life imprisonment if Akshi dies without his confession ,therefore Amir steps in to help his sister to keep her rapist alive with a hope that that she will get back her freedom and be convicted for the crime that was not intentional. Tara in the mean time in the prison cell finds some sense of purpose to look forward to cheer with the young and mischievous son of Tannishtha Chatterjee. Things further get complicated when his mother and her two daughters also pile on him at his door step. A story of good versus evil which is tested by external adversity.
