Set during the partition of India in 1947, Bharat, played by Salman Khan is made to promise by his father, played by Jackie Shroff, that while is gone involuntarily to live in Pakistan, he must look after the family and its well being. The 8 year old Bharat has to shoulder the responsibility of keeping his family together till he is as old as 70 years old.
Bharat’s journey is witnessed right from the time he joins the Russian Circus in 1964 as a young man and falls in love with an Indian trapeze artist called Radha. Later when an abundance of oil is discovered in the Gulf region in mid 1970’s, resulting in the massive Indian migration, he meets an Indian girl called Kumud Raina, played by Katrina Kaif working as a chief engineer and falls in love with her.
Bharat decides to volunteer in joining the Indian Navy and keeps his family business afloat during the extensive economic liberalization during the 1990’s. He takes up all the challenges coming his way with aplomb remembering all the while his father’s words and keeping his promise no matter what.
Bharat is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by
Atul Agnihotri, Alvira Khan Agnihotri, Bhushan Kumar
Krishan Kumar and Nikhil Namit. The movie’s music is composed by Vishal-Shekhar.
