Bhoothnath aka Kailash Nath, played by Amitabh Bachchan is humiliated and mocked by other ghosts that he cannot scare any children. He returns to Mumbai to try his luck again and meets a boy named Akhrot, played by Parth Bhalerao who can see Boothnath and isn’t scared of him, but he helps him scare other children. Akhrot wants Bhootnath to run when he’s chanting a prayer to impress his friends so they can let him join their cricket team.
Bhootnath further finds out about people who died in an under construction building due to corrupt builders and on the behest of Akhrot he decides to contest in the next elections. In his opposition is a corrupt politician Bhau, played by Boman Irani. He threatens to hurt Akhrot if he doesn’t prevent his rally. Akhrot is badly hurt by Bhau’s men and taken to the hospital. Bhootnath pleads with the gods to save the child. The gods tell him his life will be safe when Bhootnath wins the election and he does.
Bhootnath is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Krishan and Bhushan Kumar and Renu Ravi Chopra. The music is composed by Ram Sampath, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Palash Muchhal and Meet Bros.
