Mahmood from Afghanistan is recruited as a suicide bomber and trained to kill more than 400 people during the Independence celebrations in Delhi. He takes on the identity of Numair Qazi of Gujarat, whose parents were mercilessly killed during the Gujarat riots. He assumes this story and tells everyone who meets him that he is a victim who seeks justice. In order to get an entry into the Independence Day celebrations at Lal Quila he befriends a Urdu professor Rajan Mathur Sen Gupta, played by Anil Kapoor. The professor opens his house to let Numair stay with him, his wife and young daughter.
Numair is disgusted and not used to seeing Muslim people gelling se well with their Hindu counterparts. They not only organize and visit the Hindi places of pilgrimages, but also take part and celebrate the Hindu festivals with full fervor. Numair is confused with the harmony between Muslims and Hindus in the Chandni Chowk community of Delhi. He however now has to focus on his mission of laying explosives far and wide into the 15 August celebrations.
The movie is directed by Subhash Ghai and produced by Raju Farooqui, Mukta Ghai, Subhash Ghai and Rahul Puri. The music is composed by Sukhwinder Singh.
