Set in the 1960, Balraj, played by Ranbir Kapoor is a street boxer in Mumbai and is besotted by Rosie, played by Anushka Sharma, a jazz singer at a club. Illustrious men often surround Rosie and Balraj hopes to become rich one day and get Rosie’s attention. Kaizad Khambatta, played by Karan Johar is impressed by Balraj’s talent and offers him a job of handling his club Bombay Velvet and nicknames him Johnny. Truth is, Kaizad wants to cover up his illegal activities in the pretext of running a club.
Kaizad makes him do odd jobs and also secretly click controversial photos of a minister to blackmail him. Jimmy Mistry, a journalist learns this and knowing Johnny’s infatuation with Rosie, sends her to get the photograph of the minister. Johnny and Rosie fall in love in the process but Jimmy threatens Rosie so she passes valuable information on Kaizad to him. Kaizad realizes it is Rosie passing information and orders her to be killed, which infuriates Johnny.
They get into an fight and Kaizad shoots Rosie, while Johnny stabs him and gets shot himself. Rosie, however survives her gunshot. Bombay Velvet is directed by Anurag Kashyap and produced by Vikas Bahl and Vikramaditya Motwane.
