Dharma is a boxing champion and has won many matches. The managing director is very impressed by him and tells him that if he wins against Shera, he will be sent to London. Unfortunately Dharma loses the match and is fired from his job. Dharma is devastated and takes to drinking alcohol in a big way. His wife Savitri and son Shankar are left to fend for themselves while Dharma wastes his life drinking. Meanwhile
Savitri gives birth to another son named Sonu. Shankar now takes to stealing and soon becomes a big time criminal. He is one day arrested for stealing a watch of a rich man. Shankar then meets boxing coach Tony Braganza in jail who after release trains him to be a great boxer. The film is directed by Raj N Sippy and produced by Gautam Guha. The music is composed by R D Burman and the screenplay is written by Jyoti Swaroop. The star cast includes Mithun Chakraborty, Rati Agnihotri, Sharat Saxena, Parikshit Sahni, Iftekhar, Sujit Kumar, Danny Denzongpa and Tanuja.
