Abhay, played by Imran Khan is a calm and strong headed guy who loves cooking, but his dad wants him to take care of their family business, which is not exciting for him. His childhood friend is Aaliya, played by Deepika Padukone, who wants to be an actress since her mother too is an actress. Abhay and Aaliya start dating. Aaliya gets a chance to got to Australia to study in an acting school, but soon Abhay too follows her as he wants to keep an eye on her activities. Annoyed by this Aaliya breaks up with him.
Aaliya gets a chance to work in a movie and takes it up, without her mother’s approval. This infuriates her mother and she stops communicating with her. To mend things, she leaves her movie and returns to India. But her mother realizes how strong she is and sends her back to finish the movie. Later she comes to know that Abhay has decided to get married and is shocked that he didn’t even invite her. She rushes back to India to find his house buzzing with wedding preparations. She sees him getting ready for his wedding and feels sad asking him to rethink his decision. She proposes to him with the same ring he had once gifted her. He later shows his invitation card to her, which has her name on it. They both embrace and are married.
