Latika Bakshi, played by Aishwarya Rai lives in Amritsar with her parents, elder sister Jaya, played by Namrata Shirodkar and two younger sisters; Lakhi, played by Peeya Chaudhary and Maya, played by Meghna Kothari. Their mother is keen to marry off all her 4 daughters to wealthy and respectable Indian men. At a family wedding Latika meets Will Darcy, a wealthy American who is British Indian barrister Balraj’s, friend. Balraj, played by Naveen Andrews is attracted to Jaya and Darcy to Latika. Darcy is awkward and crack some silly jokes which annoy Latika and she starts to dislike him.
In Goa, Darcy and Latika’s thoughts and opinions clash and they come at logger heads. Meanwhile one of his friends Johnny tells Latika about how Darch and his mother have ill treated him. When they all return back from Goa Latika’s mother announces the arrival if Mr. Kohli, who is a rich businessman and tries to fix him with Latika much to her annoyance, while Johnny flirts with Latika and also with Lakhi. Mr Kohli later proposes marriage to Latika, which she declines. A furious Kohli leaves, while Balraj promises to write to Jaya. Latika awaits Johnny’s emails while Jaya waits for Balraj’s. Meanwhile Latika’s friend Chandra writes to her saying that she is marrying Kohli and invites the family for her wedding in California. At the airport Darcy spots Latika and family and is happy to explain everything to her. In California Latika and Darcy get close and fall in love. Meanwhile Lakhi has started dating Johnny who later gets caught for two timing both sisters.
Meanwhile Latika comes to know that Darcy had advised Balraj not to marry an Indian girl who has a gold-digger mother but later he apologizes for not recognizing the family and brings Jaya and Balraj together. They both decide to tie the knot and so does Darcy and Latika. The movie is written, directed and produced by Gurinder Chadha and co-produced by Deepak Nair. The music is composed by Anu Malik and the cinematography is by Santosh Sivan.
