During a hockey match between India and Pakistan, the Indian team captain Kabir Khan, played by Shahrukh Khan misses the final penalty shot and India loses the match. Later he is photographed shaking hands with the Pakistani team captain and is assumed to have given away the match to the Pakistanis. Kabir Khan is then sacked from captaincy and he and his mother are forced to leave their family home and move. Seven years later he emerges as the coach for the Indian Women’s Hockey team.
Kabir is now in charge of 16 young women from different states of India. They have to be motivated, disciplined and assured that they can win the match if they really work hard. The team includes of Komal Chautala of Haryana, Preeti Sabarwal from Chandigarh, Balbir Kaur from Punjab, Rani Dispotta and Soimoi Kerketa from Jharkhand, Mary Ralte from Mizoram and Molly Zimik from Manipur. The team captain is Vidya Sharma and their most experienced player is Bindiya Naik. The girls are disorderly and refuse to follow rules and in rage Kabir resigns, but later sees the girl’s potential and trains them as per their strengths. The girls win the final Hockey match against Australia and Kabir Khan wins his reputation back.
The movie is directed by Shimit Amin and produced by Aditya Chopra. The music is composed by Salim-Sulaiman and the cinematography is by Sudeep Chatterjee.
