Amma leaves her village and comes to Bombay after her husband killed a moneylender trying to molest her. He himself gets killed after he tries to steal and is shot dead. Amma and her son Benwa now live in the slums and have to fend for themselves. She finds herself a lover Anna, who provides for her son and her. But being a truck driver he is mostly travelling so she finds another lover named Lukka who is a petty crook. Benwa looks up to him. Meanwhile Benwa gets married to a young girl named Amli and Ama to her shock is pregnant. She is not sure who the father is but tells Anna it is his child as he is the responsible one out of her two lovers. Lukka then shows up one day as a changed man and wants to give up his past life of crime. He one day has a scuffle with the chemist as he asks for medicines but has no money to pay for it. He grabs the medicines and runs and hides in Amma’s hut. The cops arrest him and Benwa and beat them up black and blue. Amma gets in between the brawl and has a miscarriage. The film is directed by Rabindra Dharmaraj and produced by Manmohan Shetty. The music is composed by Hridayanath Mangeshkar. The star cast includes Naseeruddin Shah, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Smita Patil, Ranjit Choudhry, Dilip
