Chitthi' is the story of a simple village girl Subhadra and how she gets accepted in the urban modern family of her husband. Prasenjit works in the navy. He marries Subhadra during his visit to his cousin sister's place. His family is not ready to accept her because of her humble background. Prasenjit leaves for work. Subhadra's brother brings her to the city to groom her. They get shelter in their uncle's house. Prasenjit returns earlier from duty and goes to visit Subhadra who is unable to recognize him. What follows is a comedy of errors. Finally Prasenjit reveals his identity, his family accepts Subhadra and they are happily united.
