Jeetu, played by Shahid Kapoor, is unable to manage his finances and thus he and his father have been neck deep in debts. Jeetu fed up of the constant lack of money and problems, decides to commit suicide so atleast the debts can be paid with his insurance money. So he jumps into the sea but survives when he gets entangled into a fish net put by Gunday, played by Paresh Rawal and Bandya, played by Rajpal Yadav, who are two fishermen. They find a note in Jeetu’s pocket with names of people and an amount written next to them. The two fishermen think Jeetu is rich and has lent all this money to these people.

Jeetu pretends to be deaf and mute so as to not reveal his identity. Gundya meanwhile leaves Jeetu and Bandya as a guarantee to a Gujarati businessman Prabhat, for the loan he has to repay. Prabhat’s niece Shruti, played by Kareena Kapoor is mute but not deaf. One day she and her cousin Meenakshi catch Jeetu singing but promise to keep it a secret. They ask for a favor in return that he must pretend to be Shruti’s lover so her money greedy groom can break off her marriage. Meanwhile Shruti and Jeetu fall in love and eventually get married.

The movie is directed by Priyadarshan and produced by Ronnie Screwvala. The music is composed by Himesh Reshammiya.
