The movie is directed by Manmohan Desai & Prayag Raj, produced by Ketan Desai. Stars Amitabh Bachchan, Rati Agnihotri, Rishi Kapoor, Shoma Anand Khan. Released on 2nd of December 1983. This film got its popularity not just for the film but also for the eventful mishap during the shooting when Amitabh Bachchan was injured to the point of losing his life and the entire nation came together to pray for his well being and recovery.    This was the film that rose him to becoming the super hero and the much loved actor in the Indian Cinema. 

It is a Bollywood action drama film. Zafar Khan (Kader Khan) is an evil man who falls in love with Salma (Waheeda Rehman) but are not allowed to marry as he gets arrested to 10-year prison. By the time he comes out she is married to a nice man Aslam Khan (Satyendra Kapoor). Zafar tries to convince her to leave Aslam which she does not. There is a fight between them, and Salma loses her memory, is separated from her young son Iqbal (Amitabh Bachchan). Zafar kidnaps Salma, adopts an infant, names him Sunny (Rishi Kapoor). There is a flood in which Iqbal loses his uncle and family.

Iqbal grows up, becomes a coolie, is a young dashing, confident man. Sunny is a reporter who is covering the flood scene when Sunny sees a photo of his mother and they become friends and go home but unfortunately his mother does not recognise him. Iqbal falls in love with a Christian girl Julia (Rati Agnihotri) and Sunny falls in love with Deepa (Shoma Anand). A fight takes place and Iqbal is critical but with the prayers of all the coolies he recovers and comes back to life.
