Shakti is orphaned at a young age and grows up on the streets. Having seen the cops kill his dad brutally, makes him hate the police and the judiciary system. He takes to the life of crime and befriends another orphan named Shanker. Together they live in the slums and build their own name and reputation as a criminal who fights for the rights of the poor and underprivileged. He will destroy and finish the rich and wealthy who exploit the less fortunate, thus all the slum people hail him as a savior. He meets a young girl called Neelu in a brothel and sees her dedication in education. She is merely in this profession to pay for her studies. This melts his heart and he marries her.
Soon she is killed leavingtheir two children Suraj and Sarita. Shakti then goes on to become the most powerful man and even kills the ruthless evil police inspector Ratan Singh who has been harassing the people. Soon his daughter leaves him and gets married to a police inspector but doesn’t disclose this to him. Eventually Shakti is killed by the cops for being the savior of the poor. The film is directed and produced by Feroz Khan. The music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal and the story is written by Mani Ratnam. The star cast includes Vinod Khanna, Madhuri Dixit, Feroz Khan,Amala,Amrish Puri,Anupam Kher,Imtiaz Khan,Alok Nath,Aditya Pancholi,Sudhir Pandey,Mahavir Shah,Anjan Srivastav,Tinnu Anand,Mangal Dhillon and Aruna Irani.
