Deewar a 1975 crime drama film written by the duo, Salim- Javed and directed by Yash Chopra. Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Parveen Babi, Neetu Singh and Nirupa Roy in the lead roles.
The film is based on the socio political scene of the 1970’s that tells the story of two brothers who live in the slums of Bombay and are betrayed by idealism. They struggle through their growing up and eventually find themselves on the opposite side of the law due to circumstances of their fate. While the younger brother Shashi Kapoor becomes the Police officer, the elder brother Amitabh Bachan becomes Vijay whose character is loosely based on the Underworld Gangster Haji Mastan. Thus the wall that comes between on their ideology signifies the ‘Deewar’ in the film. The film won the Best FilmFare Awards and many other awards and is one of the highest grossing at the box office and is considered as a most glorious films in Bollywood.
