Roshan, played by Abhishek Bachchan has returned from the U.S and accompanies his grandmother to old Delhi. Amused with the way of chaotic life the people lead in the place, he slowly warms up to it. He starts to even enjoy the hustle and bustle of the crowded city. One day when his grandmother has a fainting spell due to spiked blood sugar levels, he feels helpless at how difficult it to reach the hospital with choked roads of traffic and a pregnant cow being worshipped with celebrations on the road. What’s more shocking is that despite her ill health, his grandmother gets up to take the cow’s blessings.
There are a lot of feuds and tiffs happening in the community too which Roshan begins to understand. He feels bad for the garbage collector lady Jalebi, played by Divya Dutta who is an untouchable and keeps away from most of the town’s festivities. Also there is a phot-studio owner Suresh, who is two timing. One of them is Bittu, played by Sonam Kapoor. Meanwhile there is news of a entity called ‘Kala Bandar’ who steals from people and even kills them. Turns out all the deaths are accidental and there isn’t a real killer.
Bittu is now planning to elope with Suresh so he wears a monkeys mask and follows them, overhearing their conversation. Seeing him the cowardly Suresh runs off and Roshan tells Bittu he loves her and she reciprocates. While the town people think Roshan is the real Kala Bandar, and beat him. But soon they realize they have made a mistake and take Roshan to a hospital. The movie is directed and produced by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and co-produced by Ronnie Screwvala. The music is composed by A.R Rahman.
