Inspector Mahadev, played by Sanjay Dutt, is asked by his superiors to form a hit squad, to nab the underworld dons and their gangs. He calls Shiv, played by Rana Daggubati to join his team. Shiv is an honest officer, who has been suspended from his duties due ta an encounter killing. Along with few others Mahadev and Shiv form a strong and invincible team to take on Sawatya, played by Vijay Raaz a notorious gangster. He however, keeps his distance from the police at all costs.
Another infamous gangster turned minister Sarjerao, played by Amitabh Minister has a soft corner for Shiv, since the latter saved his life during an election rally. Mahadev however, tells Shiv to be careful and not trust Sarjerao as he could be simply using him for his own advantage. It is later discovered that Mahadev is in fact working for a bigger don named Mohammed Ghouri and under his direction is destroying Sawatya’s gang.
Shiv refuses to be part of Mahadev’s squad there on as the trust is lost between them and the latter lets him be. Things start getting complicated and violent when Shiv decides to exterminate another gang under Mahadev’s protection.
Department is directed by Ram Gopal Varma and produced by Siddhant Oberoi and Amit Sharma. The music is composed by Bappi Lahiri, Dharam-Sandeep and Vikram Magi.
