Desh Premee released in 1982 is directed by Manmohan Desai starring Amitabh Bachchan in a dual role as Master Dinanath and Raju.  Co-stars Hema Malini, Sharmila Tagore, Shammi Kapoor, Uttam Kumar, Parikshit Sahni, Premnath,  Parveen Babi , Amjad Khan and Navin Nischol.

Master Dinanath (Amitabh Bachchan) is an ex-freedom fighter who has fought during the struggles for Independence in the war of 1942 against the British and he cannot tolerate people betraying. He gets the Landlord Thakur Pratap Singh (Amjad Khan) arrested as he gets to know of his illegal activities in smuggling of weapons and ammunition.   Pratap Singh is jailed and to take a revenge on Master Dinanath, he arranges to get his wife Bharati (Sharmila Tagore) and his daughter Priti (Parveen Babi) kidnapped by his crime partner Sher Singh (Kader Khan). Master Dinanath is a man of principles. Thakur further provokes attack on Dinanath’s home that he is forced to run away from his home with his young son Raju. Tragedy befalls on Dinanath when his wife becomes a victim of leprosy and she leaves their young daughter Priti in a friend’s care. Dinanath is informed that his wife’s necklace is found near the railway tracks and there is a possibility that both his wife and daughter are killed. Dinanath is devastated with the loss of his wife and daughter and he moves on with new life with his son Raju

They settle down in a slum called Bharath Nagar that have people from different backgrounds who are at loggerheads with each other and have their own territory marked in the slum area.  They are Punjabi (Shammi Kapoor), Tamilian(Premnath), Bengali (Uttam Kumar) and Muslim (Parikshit Sahni).  Dinanath tries to bring peace within the four of them not realizing that they are using Master’s stay in the slums to cover up for their illegal activities.

In the mean while his son Raju has grown up (Amitabh again). 15 years later Raju has taken up an employment with Thakur Pratap Singh , unaware that he was responsible for his mother and sister’s kidnap.  Will Raju get to the know the truth and find out where his mother and sister are?
